Introduction
The Chulalongkorn Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University offers an advanced endo-laparoscopy fellowship of one year in length. Applications must have completed a general surgery residency and be board eligible or board certified in general surgery as determined by the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand. The fellow, in conjunction with the general surgery residents, will be primarily responsible for the care of all endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery patients on the service. This will include initial evaluation of patients, preparation for proposed procedures, conducting the procedure in a superfised fashion, and following the patient afterward. As mastery is demonstrated, the fellow will then help teach these procedures to the resident staff. It is anticipated that the fellow will participate mostly in advanced laparoscopy in upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary and endocrinology, therapeutic upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, small bowel endoscopy, and ERCPs. The fellow is also getting involve in new modalities of therapy include both endoluminal surgery as well as transperitoneal surgery.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the fellow will also be involved in research. This will entail both clinical trials and basic science work including the development of novel endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques in the animal laboratory. Participation will include involvement in ongoing studies as well as establishing original research protocols. The fellow will present the results of these studies at national and international meetings and submit manuscipits to peer reviewed journals.
