Background

Mekong Endo-Surgery Development Association (MESDA) : A Nonprofit organization to promote standardization of Mekong medical care

In September 5th, 2016 the MESDA (Mekong Endo-Surgery Development Association), a non-profit organization, aiming to disseminate and promote endoscopic surgical operations in the Mekong region (Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand) was established in Thailand. From the medical technology to the related equipment, the endoscopic surgical operation in Japan, which is the world’s top level, is established through ongoing training and educational activities for local doctors, thereby increasing the need as advanced technology. The same surgical technique can improve safety and develop knowledge. Professor Seigo Kitano (Chairman of the International Endoscopic Surgery Federation, Honorary President of the Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgery, President of the Oita University) has been trying to spread laparoscopic surgery since 1990s. The director was appointed by representatives from each Mekong country.

MESDA is endorsed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ, General Association conducting outbound business promoting medical international development), Japan Endoscopic Surgery Association, Japanese Medical University Mirror Human Resource Development Support University Consortium, Japanese affiliated company consortium etc.

All Japan project to training doctors

Since 2004, Professor Seigo Kitano has been working on human resources development in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic surgery, mainly in Asia such as Thailand and Vietnam. From 13 years, as a part of the Japan-Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s human resource development activities (trade and investment promotion project), in accordance with the policy of the Japanese government “International Expansion of Japanese-style Medical Care by Public-Private Partnership”, Vietnam’s “early Training for gastric cancer diagnosis dissemination support, Indonesia’s “advanced endoscope training”, In cooperation with human resource development activities which is a public of fearing project of MEJ, in collaboration with Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgery, Mekong Region and Russia Academic Societies were engaged. We are engaged in “Demonstration study project on utilization of Mekong surgical training center and establishment of Russia endoscopic surgical training center” aimed at constructing a framework for supporting regional surgeons.
